Our vegetarian cooking

I’ll tell a little about the dishes that we cooked there. Because those who eat meat, usually think that without it they may die of hunger. Basically, we cooked different cereals. It was spring. There were no vegetables from a new harvest yet, just a little from last year’s harvest — those vegetables which were brought by people who came to work at our tent camp. We cooked a dish from any cereals, added there vegetables and spices. We had a lot of different spices and kitchen herbs: pepper, paprika, ginger, caraway seeds, cardamom, coriander, curry, cumin seeds, dill, parsley, mint, saffron and some others. Also we had some dried fruits and vegetables. Besides kasha of cereals, we always cooked any salad, flat cakes and herbal tea.

For tea and for salad, we could gather grasses and flowers here just going out the doors of our kitchen. We took carrots, beets, onions and Jerusalem artichokes in different combinations as the basis of a salad. Then we added May young nettle, lungwort and some other grasses which grew there (I don’t know the names in English). For tea, we used lungwort, mint, lemon balm, flowers of bird cherry tree, leaves and flowers of red and black currant, a lot of which grew there, too. To keep up the strength of the people in the tent camp, every day we cooked legumes: peas, haricot beans or soy beans. A few times during the week, we cooked soy milk and tasty salads from soy okara (product, which remains after wringing soy beans and getting milk from beans). Sometimes we cooked unusual "milk" and "curd" from soaked oats. In our last day there we even cooked cedar coffee.

I write so at length about our food, because not long ago there was one more broadcast on our wonderful TV. In it Maria Karpinskaya declared with confidence, that people in Vissarion’s community hunger and become covered with sores. I was in different villages and on the Mountain, met many people, but haven’t seen something like this anywhere. Quite the contrary, I saw that people there almost entirely provide themselves with food from their vegetable gardens and also have a good chance to receive guests and to share food with those who have not enough.

Also during my journey back to Moscow I met on the train one young business man. When he knew where I was coming from, he said: "A-a! It’s that Vissarion, who compels people to pray days and nights, takes all their money and adds drugs to their food?!" (Oh, our sweet TV! I feel ashamed for you!)

So, because I cooked food myself, I can say with full certainty that we did not add any narcotics , drugs or doping substances into the food. Unless, maybe, sometimes pepper too much. :-) Nobody took my money, didn’t even ask for it. I paid as people pay everywhere: fare for tickets on buses , in shops when I bought things which I needed or when I bought hand-made products of any craftsmen, whose goods I liked.

And we slept at night just like other peaceful people. Maybe, with the exception of young people, who liked better talking about life and songs with guitar around the fire. However, I think that our prayer must be our life itself, when we forget about ourselves and our interests and do good actions for those who need it.

Celebration in Petropavlovka

And this is just blooming quince.

Tibercul

One day when I worked on the Mountain I was at the lake Tibercul.

Legends say that the water in this holy lake heals and gives strength. On the way there, the words from the song by Vladimir Visotsky came into my mind: "Your world is hidden from me and from light by wizards for many thousands of years."

It seems that the lake is really hidden from people. Only some persistent people can get there. The forest, trees come to the edge of the water. You go along the path and only in the last moment when you find yourself at the edge of the water, you see that you’ve come to the lake already. And then, farther along a view of such celestial beauty opens up, that it takes your breath away. It's impossible to convey neither with words, nor with a cold photo. Probably, some time an artist will be found whose creativity will be able to embody this living, pure beauty. And now here it is - just a little piece of amazing enchantment by the name of Tibercul.

This is true, after my ablution in Tibercul my strength increased. On the way back up the mountain, I climbed easier and faster than on the way down the mountain to the lake. Also tens of ticks which I took away from me after it, didn't do me any harm. Perhaps, it's true that the reason for it is an open heart?
